What am I working on this week?

I didn’t do a lot of writing this week but I did do some reflection and planning, which really needed to be done.

I got some feedback about a novel manuscript that confirmed some other feedback – so 2 independent readers making similar comments – which meant I had to make some decisions about where to take this particular project. I had to ask myself some tough questions about whether I was willing to take the project in a different direction, and really think about what that meant in terms of the story itself as well as the time that I would need to put into a major rewrite. Luckily I spent the weekend at a fabulous writing retreat at O’Reilly’s in Lamington National Park which was the perfect place to reflect on what I needed to do and my willingness to do it, and I now have a plan to take the project forward.

What’s inspiring me this week?

I’ve had an incredibly inspiring 3 days at the Rainforest Writing Retreat. Such a beautiful location, and amazing presenters including fantastic Australian writers Isobelle Carmody, Marianne de Pierres and Trent Jamieson. It was definitely worth the time spent, and I gained some important insights into my writing path – where I am now and where I want to be – as well as picking up some great new skills to apply in my work. This is my first time at this retreat and I highly recommend it. A fantastic, memorable experience that will enrich my writing output for a long time to come.

What have I been avoiding this week?

Nothing so far but I have made a decision to start up an email list so I expect to start avoiding doing anything about that decision very soon. It all looks way too complicated, despite all the blog posts saying how easy it is.
