What am I working on this week?

Like a lot of others I’ve taken a little time off from writing over the Christmas break but I have a lot to do this year, so it’s time to get started on all my 2017 projects. The first is a story for an anthology I’ve been asked to contribute to. I’ve decided to experiment with structure a little and so I’m thinking of writing sections set in the past in present tense, and sections set in the present in past tense. It could turn out to be  a complete mess, but I’ll give it a shot.

What’s inspiring me this week?

I’m in a phase of reading non-fiction at the moment and over the Christmas break I’ve read Maxine Beneba-Clarke’s The Hate Race, Magda Szubanski’s Reckoning and I’m 2/3 through Suki Kim’s Without You, There is No Us. They’re all great books but for me Beneba-Clarke has been the standout of the three. She is a brilliant writer. Her writing is a punch to the gut. Everyone should read it.

What part of my project am I avoiding?

No avoidance, just gearing up to a successful 2017 where I make every word I write count.
