I’ve joined Peter M. Ball’s Sunday Circle to help keep my writing on track. Follow along here or join in the fun over at Peter’s blog, Man Versus Bear.

What am I working on this week?

The plan is to finish the first draft of Rise of the Rat Generation today, which may or may not happen. I’m close to the end  but I may decide to spend another weekend on it, depending on how today’s writing session goes. My first drafts often lack a satisfying conclusion, so I’m not too worried either way.

As usual my main characters actions and decisions surprise me. I love being a pantser!

What’s inspiring me this week?

Margaret Atwood. I’ve just started reading Oryx & Crake (although I’ve already read Madaddam, which means I’m reading the trilogy out of order) and I was hooked from the first page. I adore Atwood’s writing. If I  could be a tenth of the writer she is, I’d be ecstatic.

What part of my project am I avoiding?

I’m not really avoiding it, but I had another look at the new horror short story I drafted a few weeks ago. What a mess! It’s just as well I love a challenge. I’m sure there is a story in there somewhere but it’s going to take some dedicated fossicking to uncover it.
