What am I working on this week?

As well as working towards my 4000 words per week goal for my first draft of Rise  of the Rat Generation, this week I tackled rewriting my horror story Never the Tracked. Thanks so much to Kevin and Karina who gave me some inspiring quotes about writing bad guys – they’ve been a great help. It’s hard sometimes when  you really love a story to dismantle it and change direction, but I can see how the more fully realised bad guy is going to make it a  much better story.

What’s inspiring me this week?

As mentioned above I drew a lot of inspiration from the advice I received about writing bad guys. The quotes have been great reference points for me to use during the rewriting process of that particular story, and I know they’ll continue to help me in the future. When I finally get my writing room set up next year, I’ll be printing out the quotes and putting them above my writing desk.

What part of my project am I avoiding?

The massive plot holes in my first draft! Though that’s not really avoidance so much as just the way I write my first drafts. I push through to achieve word count and keep the story going knowing that there will be plenty to fix when the second draft comes around.
