I’m so excited that Rat City is finally out in the world. This story has been close to my heart for a long time. I wrote the first draft of it 13 years ago and it has been through countless drafts, rewrites and edits since then.

I’ve had some great feedback about it throughout the years, and a lot of that feedback has informed the final product. And in the past 13 years I’ve spent a lot of time practicing my writing skills. This includes going to workshops and masterclasses, attending conferences, studying at university, working with mentors and peers, and of course, reading widely across all genres.

There is no shortcut to becoming a better writer. It takes time, practice and discipline. There are a lot of tears over rejections, frustrations over plot lines that refuse to work and many, many other hurdles. But it’s a whole lot of fun, too. If it wasn’t, we wouldn’t do it!

Rat City is a story I’ve always believed in and I can’t wait to share it with as many readers as possible. You can read the first chapter or preview it for free on:

In Rat City, when you can see the signs, it’s already too late..
